12 of our Favorite Parts of the Wedding Day

There are so many things about a wedding day that we absolutely adore, and Josh recently posted about his 15 favorite moments, so we decided to come up with a combined list. We narrowed it down to a list of our Top 12 favorite things.

  1. Guests/Fashion. From the what-not-to-wear to the best dressed list, we always see a little of both on every wedding day.  Not to mention the clothing choices of the couple – whether they have matching outfits for their bridal party or let their friend’s personality shine through, this always tells us so much about our couple.
  2. Getting Ready Rooms. Reserved for the closest friends and confidants, these are the rooms that show us the relationships that have made these two individuals into who they are, not only as a person, but as a couple.
  3. Daddy/Daughter First Looks. There is something about the nervousness of a Daddy about to see his little girl all dressed up and ready to commit her life to the person she’s chosen on her wedding day. These are some of my favorite moments – always filled with pride, memories, joy and the bittersweet-ness of the day.
  4. Couple Portraits. We strategically time these so that you get a few moments to reconnect as a couple before the hectic day begins. We love this time – emotions are heightened and you can’t wait to be close to each other.
  5. Personalized, Detailed Decor. All the little things, from the colors and textures to the design elements pull in parts of your story from that first hello til today. These make your wedding story complete.
  6. Grandparents (pretty much anything having to do with them!). We LOVE Grandparents. Probably in part because we are so close to our own, but also because they absolutely ADORE the couple and you can just see the joy radiating from them all day long. And we think it’s sort of cute that grandma would rather look at the couple during family photos than at the camera.
  7. The vows. If you two have taken the time to write these yourselves, you’ve won us over. Even if you only share them privately during your first look, this gets us every time. Kate will probably cry.
  8. Daddy/Daughter Dances. We have lots of daughters, and have imagined this moment from our perspective too many times to count. There is something so amazing about this moment when you can see the memories of childhood and the transition into that adult friendship taking place … this is another Kate is going to cry wedding day moment. There are a lot of them. No apologies.
  9. Rings. We LOVE rings. And we love being creative with rings. We know that you’ve carefully chosen these pieces as your daily reminder of your commitment, and feel that they’re very important to capture well. Every wedding day is a new challenge to do something awesome with them.
  10. Bouquets. It’s funny because we’re really not flower people, but there is something INCREDIBLE about the artistry of the wedding bouquet.
  11. Cakes/Desserts. You may have noticed, we have a thing for cakes and desserts. They’re works of art in themselves and we love to show them off in a way that most people don’t notice.
  12. Special Exits. These can be SO FUN. From sparklers to confetti to an awesome car getaway, a ferry ride, a hot air balloon or a stop off at a bowling alley, we love seeing the unique ways couples choose to end their wedding celebration.

And a bonus 13. Cultural Traditions – one of our favorite kind of ceremonies to photograph is a traditional Jewish ceremony. The moments involved are just so completely heartfelt and rich in their meaning, you can’t help but be moved.

Now it’s your turn …  What part are you looking forward to most from your day?
