Love that will Outlive the Trees | Beau Lodge Wedding

“Love is like a tree, it grows of its own accord, it puts down deep roots into our whole being.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             – Victor Hugo

There are some couples that you just KNOW are going to stand the test of time and through everything life throws at them. Amanda and Alec are one of those couples.

When I met up with them in a coffee shop, I noticed that they had this comfortable, safe, confidence about their relationship. They respected eachother and there was a mutual protectiveness. It was really impactful, even from that simple meeting, and I hoped they’d book with us.

When they did, I was overjoyed. Amanda and Alec are fellow Potterheads (score when we found the crab-apple that was shaped a bit like a golden snitch), and the kind of quirky, creative couple that we would be friends with outside of work. I loved getting emails from her – about wedding ideas and thoughts, and even just every day life.

We did a walkthrough of their venue, Beau Lodge, and it has quickly become one of my favorites. The sweeping grounds are filled with all different types of trees (which was awesome, because that is Alec’s field), ponds, gardens, and nature. It’s an oasis in the middle of nowhere in Bow, WA, and it’s the perfect venue for “bonding through experiences” type of couples.

Some of my favorite details were Amanda’s awesome shoes – she had two pairs! – and her handmade paper flowers and fern bouquets (the paper was none other than the pages of Harry Potter!!), the pearls her grandmother placed on her neck, their paper airplane guest book box, the fact that they skipped “I Dos” and opted for the Game of Thrones vows … and the fact that they not only did a first look between Alec & Amanda, but also Amanda & her dad… and Alec & his mom! It was super sweet as his mom played a pretty pivotal role in their dating story. I also loved the sweet moment between Amanda and their pup, Maggie.

And what’s that story? I’ll let Amanda take it from here.

I actually rented out his old bedroom from his mom while he was off at college. His family adopted me long before we met. When we did meet, we hated each other. It took a long time and his mother pushing both of us until we finally figured it out.

I’d found out he had the ring 3 months before he finally proposed. Total accident! I was excited and didn’t tell him. I wanted him to have his secret.
For our 2nd anniversary we went to a wonderful fancy shmancy dinner, something you would dramatically get down on one knee while the waiter brings out a glass of champagne with a big rock in the bottom. He didn’t propose. (He left the ring in his other jacket!)
Thankgiving came and went. Christmas came and went. Our holiday party came and went. I finally said, you know what. I’ll just forget about it.

Every year we have a tradition of going and finding snow with the dog on New Years Day. We packed up and drove out to our spot to hike around. He wanted to take a family photo so he went and set up a camera to take the photo. (As he was running back, he totally face planted in the snow! Hahahah) He came over and got down on one knee, he finally asked. Now, I’m sweaty, I’m tired, I turn to look and realize hes down on one knee, this is it. He stuttered out a “Will you marry me” All I could say was “Really, now you decide to do this? Fucking really?!” Of course I said yes! And that sweet boy of mine got it all on video.Hows that for a romantic proposal story?

My family lives in Edison, the town right next to Bow. Its incredibly special to me that I will be getting married so close to the home I had growing up
