“If I need to search the earth to find you, I will do it all over again. You are the one I am destined to be with.”
There are times when an email hits your inbox, and you immediately know, you will do whatever it takes to photograph this wedding. Fortunately for me, that feeling hits a lot – but this one was different.
As a photographer, there are places on earth that you long to photograph. There is a regal beauty that just needs to be in front of the lens… and while nature alone doesn’t inspire me to photograph it, incredibly people in love in that nature is my absolute heart song. Especially when they’re eloping.
Glacier National Park is one of my favorite places on earth. When the bride mentioned that they were wanting to elope at Glacier, I knew this was a *had to* moment. I’d never done the Avalanche Lake hike, and if we’re honest, the photos on all of my Google image searches (admit it, you do this too) weren’t incredibly promising.
Josh and I decided to make a family trip of it. We arrived a couple of days early and did the hike – and my goodness, we were pleasantly surprised. Avalanche is serene, beautiful, and absolutely the perfect backdrop for an elopement.
I met up with our couple the night before their wedding and finalized their details, and then woke up bright and early ready to take on the 2.5 mile one way hike as the sun rose. As we hiked, they talked of their love of exploration. They’ve journeyed to some incredible places while they’ve been dating, and it became more and more obvious that they’d chosen the most perfect venue to say their vows.
Their vows were sweet and quiet, and the two of them were filled with smiles throughout their ceremony. Once the legal stuff was all done, they were willing to adventure and try most anything to get awesome photographic memories from their wedding day… all topped off by some Eddie’s Cafe Huckleberry Pie as their wedding day dessert.
Make sure to leave them some comment love, and of course I’d like to thank the awesome vendors:
Officiant: Sally Hangar, Marry Me in Montana
Venue: Avalanche Lake, Glacier National Park
Wedding Pie: Eddie’s Cafe at Apgar Village
