This PNW Elopement is one of my all-time favorites. The beautiful bride, Shaina, contacted me early on in planning – she hired me to photograph her proposing to her soon-to-be, Zach.

Once the proposal happened, planning began. There were questions on where to go (because it was important that their adorable pups be included). They decided on a space and we were all set to go – and then a few days before, something unexpected threw a wrench into the plans and they came up with a back-up plan. I think it worked out beautifully.

Let’s hear a bit about their story from the bride’s perspective.:

How did the two of you meet?

We worked in the same career field but different jobs in the Air Force. We were stationed in Turkey together and both had ended hard relationships. Turkey was a high stress assignment, but we found peace with each other by traveling outside the base. We went on a lot of adventures- hiking, getting lost, exploring villages. I left Turkey before Zach to go to my next duty station, and he was separating the air force. We decided to do long distance and eventually I moved to Seattle to be with him after I had finished my enlistment.

What inspired the clothing choices for the wedding?

A comfortable, laid-backish style. I looked at my dress for months before buying it. I wanted all over lace, long sleeve, open back and not too fancy. We kept the relax look going with Ainsley’s outfit with a knit cardigan. Zach likes a vintage look and his brown jacket complemented it well with elbow patches and wool or tweed, whatever it is.

Describe any special moments planned.

We plan to read our vows privately on Lake Crescent at sunrise before we go to Cape Flattery for our  PNW Elopement ceremony.

Meet your photographers.

We’re Kate (she/her) and Josh (he/him). Married humans, emotional chaos wranglers, coffee worshippers, timeline nerds, Marvel fanatics, and occasional ugly criers at weddings. (Okay, maybe more than occasional. Look, vows get us. Every damn time.) Kate has been photographing since 1997 and Josh picked up the camera in 2011. We’ve done over 600 weddings together, including wedding coordination (sometimes we even get to do both at the same time!) 600+ weddings → “That’s 600 families who trusted us to be invisible magic and backup problem-solvers.” 14 years → “We’ve seen it all — and we know how to handle anything without making it your problem.” Coordination → Kate is also a certified coordinator which gives that extra boost for you during planning and on the day itself “We don’t just photograph your day — we keep it flowing, calm, and meaningful.”
