There is something sweet & sentimental with the thought of keeping your wedding dress. It’s a reminder of the love on that day, right? Well yes, but …
First, I can tell you, as a mom of 5 girls, there isn’t a single one of them that wants to even consider possibly wearing my dress when they get married. I’m not going to lie – I sort of don’t want them to. I want them to choose something that is absolutely perfectly them.
Secondly, that dress takes up a LOT of room. We recently moved, and I debated throwing it out because the thought of trying to find space for it in our new house was not appealing. It’s still here, but only because I can occasionally get use out of it for photo shoots… but it probably won’t be for much longer. When we renew our vows, I definitely WON’T be wearing THAT dress.
Third, as many of you know, I am all about giving back and paying it forward. I’ve seen some amazing things created with wedding dresses for those in need, and there are some incredible causes that take wedding dress donations and either use the proceeds towards their cause, or connect the dress with a bride in need. I was researching this recently, and I found SO many amazing links, I thought I’d share them with some of my like-minded bride tribe.
These Organizations are located all over the US. They do keep your dress, so if you’re planning to do a Trash the Dress or Day After kind of session (not sure if you do? contact us for more information on these types of sessions), make sure you do that first, and then have the dress dry-cleaned and prepped for donation.
If you’d like to keep your donation local, we recommend checking in with a local St Vincent dePaul or Goodwill, posting in a local Facebook group, or posting an ad on Craigslist.
