This backyard Monroe wedding was a special one for us.

Kate has known the bride, Amanda, for several years, in fact, she was a guest at our wedding. While we mostly kept in touch via Facebook, watching her relationship grow with Ryann has been amazing. They complement each other perfectly – a little bit nerdy and gamer, sweet with a touch of edgy, driven and focused on creating a life and kids that are incredible human beings (because they themselves are incredible human beings, of course).

When they announced their plans to marry, I secretly hope she would hire us. I watched her planning posts and then one day a few months before the wedding, she reached out to me. We still happened to have the date open, and I may or may not have jumped for joy. You see, Amanda is just as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside.

This Monroe wedding day started in Amanda’s dads home where everyone bustled around getting ready. Surrounded by only a handful of close friends and family they said their vows in the yard. Amanda’s best friend officiated, and it was short, sweet, and perfect for the two of them – especially as their toddler daughter darted occasionally between them for snuggles.

After the ceremony, we took off with the two of them for a bit to do portraits, and then it was time to head to the reception site and begin set up – they invited more family and friends to join them for a party with food and drinks and dancing later in the evening, at Hilton Garden Inn in Bothell.

I loved the DIY decor put together by the bride, and how her family and friends stepped in to help set up. Their cake smash was also one of the best we’ve had in awhile – you’ll definitely want to scroll down to check out Ryann’s epic cake smash form.

Meet your photographers.

We’re Kate (she/her) and Josh (he/him). Married humans, emotional chaos wranglers, coffee worshippers, timeline nerds, Marvel fanatics, and occasional ugly criers at weddings. (Okay, maybe more than occasional. Look, vows get us. Every damn time.) Kate has been photographing since 1997 and Josh picked up the camera in 2011. We’ve done over 600 weddings together, including wedding coordination (sometimes we even get to do both at the same time!) 600+ weddings → “That’s 600 families who trusted us to be invisible magic and backup problem-solvers.” 14 years → “We’ve seen it all — and we know how to handle anything without making it your problem.” Coordination → Kate is also a certified coordinator which gives that extra boost for you during planning and on the day itself “We don’t just photograph your day — we keep it flowing, calm, and meaningful.”
