Hidden Meadows Summer Wedding

This wedding at Hidden Meadows was filled with sweet moments and lots of party. I asked Mikeala & Owin to tell a bit more of their story:

How did the two of you meet?
Owin and Mikeala met through the Industrial Engineering program at UW in 2017. At the annual department holiday party, Owin casually mentioned that he plays hockey and that they should go ice skating sometime, aka the perfect way to show off his skills and hold Mikeala’s hand. After a successful first date ice skating, Owin knew that he had to try for a second, so he challenged Mikeala to a game of pool at a local dive bar. Long story short, Mikeala made a bet, she lost, and had to hold up her end of the deal – a kiss. After winning Mikeala over, Owin asked her “will you be my girlfriend” to which Mikeala smiled and replied “sure, why not.” They have been inseparable ever since. Graduation to buying their first house together, Owin and Mikeala have become each other’s best friends.

How did the proposal happen?
December of 2020 Owin surprised Mikeala by proposing on an ice rink in front of all her family and friends. Owin even had the lights turn pink and their song come on for the occasion.

Why did you choose your venue?
Owin chose it and Mikeala loved it. We liked the indoor and outdoor ceremony options in the case of rain.

Are there any special parts of your ceremony or decor?
Hand fasting ceremony cord – We made our cord out of ballet slipper ribbons (Mikeala was a ballerina for 18 years) and hockey laces (Owin has been a hockey player for the last 19 years). Charms on the cord represent special things about our relationship.

Our guest book is two hockey jerseys with the numbers 20 and 23, not only to represent the year we get married but also that we are a team.

Meet your photographers.

We’re Kate (she/her) and Josh (he/him). Married humans, emotional chaos wranglers, coffee worshippers, timeline nerds, Marvel fanatics, and occasional ugly criers at weddings. (Okay, maybe more than occasional. Look, vows get us. Every damn time.) Kate has been photographing since 1997 and Josh picked up the camera in 2011. We’ve done over 600 weddings together, including wedding coordination (sometimes we even get to do both at the same time!) 600+ weddings → “That’s 600 families who trusted us to be invisible magic and backup problem-solvers.” 14 years → “We’ve seen it all — and we know how to handle anything without making it your problem.” Coordination → Kate is also a certified coordinator which gives that extra boost for you during planning and on the day itself “We don’t just photograph your day — we keep it flowing, calm, and meaningful.”
