These two have the cutest love story – and they chose the perfect fairytale setting to have a garden wedding – Winding Path Gardens is a maze of flowers and fountains and gardens that truly made Matilyn and Andrew reminiscent of a prince & princess.
As usual, we asked the couple to tell you their story in their own words, so from Matilyn & Andrew:
How did the two of you meet?
Junior High sure is a scary time, and it’s when these two lovebirds first met. The night before this fated meeting, Mattie had gone to see Newsies (and loved it with all her heart). Meanwhile, Andrew was viewing the same production with slightly different feelings.
The following morning is where our story begins.
Andrew came to school with one of the raddest (most rad) realizations in history, and he planned to unleash it upon the world. At the lunch table, he enthusiastically exclaimed, “Newsies is just Magic Mike for younger girls!”
Simultaneously, having truly fallen in love with the production, Mattie sat at her lunch table wearing a brand new Newsies Tour T-shirt. She slowly raised her head to acknowledge this idiot and as calmly as she could muster, asked, “what did you just say?!” Andrew’s face fell as he came to the realization that he had just sullied his chances with ‘the perfect girl’ (his words).
And yet, we all know they were destined to meet again…
How did the proposal happen?
It is now the day after Thanksgiving of 2018 and the Ransom and Kinsfather families are gathered for a proper game night. Mattie had only an inkling of an idea what might happen, and Andrew…well Andrew also only had an inkling of an idea what might happen. All he knew was that he was waiting for the perfect moment.
After a wonderful dinner of sausage spinach pie 😉 and a couple rounds of games, Andrew seemed to have the best luck in the universe; his dad decided to play Kermit The Frog’s The Rainbow Connection. See, Andrew happened to know almost the entirety of the song, and has a wonderful Kermit impression (obviously). As the song came to an end, he knew it was time. And so, he got down on one knee and asked Mattie to spend the rest of her life with him. And for so many wonderful reasons, starting with true love (her words), she said yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! (also her words)
Is there a reason you chose Winding Path Gardens?
This venue has so much personality – with the pole-barn, gazebo, and maze, we knew there would be such fantastic photo opportunities and wonderful places for our family to enjoy on the wedding day!
Are there any special or DIY parts to your wedding?
Almost everything is DIY, Our centerpieces are lanterns built by the bride’s mom, all signs are designed and created by the bride’s family, and the guest book (Disney castle with tokens for guests to sign which fall in around it), and “future fund” box were specially designed and created by the bride’s parents (Ransom Workshop, linked above and below). On the wall behind the bridal party table, we will have a selection of our favorite engagement photos on display.
What special moments happened during the wedding?
Andrew’s brothers Jason and Robert sang Can’t Help Falling In Love for our first dance. This is the song that was playing when Mattie first realized she was falling in love with Andrew.
Also, the bride’s aunt (Aunt Kaycie) was our officiant. We have both gotten the opportunity to spend time with her throughout the time we have been together and love her humor and her love for everyone around her! She is so important to us and that is why she is such a huge part of this special day!
